He is currently an Associate Professor with the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering, and an Associate Professor with the Department of Radiology, at the University of New Mexico (UNM). At UNM, he is the Director of the image and video Processing and Communications Laboratory (ivPCL) at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of New Mexico. He is also serves as a board member for the FPGA mission assurance center (FMAC). He received his Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 1998. He also holds bachelor degrees in Mathematics (High Honors) and Computer Sciences (High Honors and Special Honors) from the University of Texas at Austin. For his undergraduate studies, he was awarded a full scholarship from the Cyprus America Scholarship Program. |

His research interests are in the area of digital image and video processing, including the development of dynamically reconfigurable architectures for digital image and video processing. He has published over 115 journal and conference articles and has contributed to 17 published book chapters. For his teaching, he has taught 15 different courses that the University of New Mexico, the University of Cyprus and WashingtonStateUniversity. His research has been funded by DARPA, AFRL, NIH and the industry. At the University of New Mexico, he has been awarded the 2006 School of Engineering Harrison Faculty Excellence award that acknowledges his contributions in teaching, research and service. He also received the best paper award from the Third IFIP Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Innovations (AIAI06) and the Teacher of the year award from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at UNM. |
